An adaptation and disaster risk reduction forum in the Philippines

Philippine Information Agency: The Department of Interior and Local Government-Cordillera (DILG-CAR) hosted on Tuesday a climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction forum and a collaborative workshop among stakeholders coming from the Abra and Abulog River Basins area.

Delegates from Abra, Benguet, Apayao, Mountain Province, Ilocos Sur, and Cagayan attended the activity which adopts the theme, “Building Climate Adoptive and Disaster Resilient Communities.”

John Castañeda, DILG-CAR regional director, in an interview, said the forum and workshop aimed to formulate an action plan to address concerns such as flood in areas crossed by both Abra and Abulog Rivers in the three regions as well as to make their community prepared on whatever exigencies that climate change and possible disaster may bring.

Castañeda said the activity is part of DILG’s effort in enhancing the capacity of LGUs to be in the forefront of government’s initiative to adapt, mitigate, and prepare for climate change and disasters.

The participants were asked to craft a roadmap towards creating a dynamic river basin, with a common action agenda which includes management mechanism, governance structure, financing scheme, and performance evaluation....
